THE SPACE
Banco Group is restoring the Union Bank to a space for community, starting with Art at the Bank – an evolving roster of pop up exhibitions and artists-in-residence.
For decades the historic Union Bank was a local landmark and pillar of community, before falling into disrepair. Just prior to it’s renovation, a series of free exhibitions for artists in residence took place. Thousands of visitors had the opportunity to walk through this historic site while supporting the work of talented artists.
Imagine a city where all the disused buildings and temporary spaces are turned over to art and art making.
Art at the Bank encapsulates Banco Group’s ongoing commitment to activating spaces, fostering creativity and building community through art.
EXCLUSIVE MELBOURNE SHOWCASE:
MEET AWARD-WINNING FASHION DESIGNER AMY LAWRANCE
Vogue Vanguard designer and National Designer Award winner Amy Lawrance will host a four-day showcase of her creations at The Union Bank building, Cecil Place Precinct in Windsor, from Thursday 23 to Sunday 26 October 2025.
In a rare opportunity for Melbourne fashion lovers, Lawrance will personally present more than 25 of her handcrafted gowns — including award-winning designs and yet-to-be unveiled pieces — in this historic space, with bespoke orders available throughout the event.
Recognised as one of Australia’s most promising designer-makers, Lawrance is celebrated for her meticulous craftsmanship. Each gown is conceived, patterned, and sewn by hand, blending centuries-old techniques passed down through generations of women with bold, contemporary forms. The result is a body of work that feels timeless yet genre-defying — part Victorian, part mid-century, part sci-fi.
Using natural fibres, raw golden tones, and slubbed, undyed silks, Lawrance designs with minimal waste and an enduring philosophy: to create garments so unique and exquisite they are cherished and worn for a lifetime.
Earmarked by US Vogue as “one to watch,” Lawrance has previously presented in Paris and continues to attract international attention for her otherworldly creations worn by models and celebrities around the world.

ART AT THE BANK
ART AT THE BANK: over the past twelve months Cecil Place Precinct has offered the Union Bank space to multiple artists showcasing their works from a range of mediums. The exhibitions were part of a program to donate and activate this unique space while it lay idol prior to its refurbishment.
Over 10,000 people walked through the doors to support and experience wearable art, thought provoking film and video art, editable art and inspiring murals, paintings and sculptures. We’d like to thank Andy Dinan of ADA Consulting for the curation of the program and look forward to continuing our support of the arts by commissioning works that engage with the buildings history in due course.
